After surviving a car crash under mysterious circumstances, Mary Henry leaves Kansas for Utah and takes a job as a church organist, hoping distance will quiet what happened on that road. Candace Hilligoss is Mary, increasingly isolated as a hollow-eyed stranger keeps appearing in her path and her attention fixes on a deserted lakeside carnival outside town. As the visions grow harder to dismiss, the line between aftermath, apparition, and memory begins to fray.
