Former vaudeville child star Baby Jane Hudson lives on in a decaying Hollywood mansion, where the spotlight is gone but her need for it isn’t. Bette Davis is Jane, now middle-aged, volatile, and drinking hard, while Joan Crawford’s Blanche — once the more successful sister — is left paraplegic and dependent on her. Their old rivalry curdles into something cruel as Jane tightens her control over the house and over Blanche’s daily life. The setting is all faded glamour and locked-in resentment: piano songs, old costumes, and the remains of show-business fame turning sour behind closed doors.
