Narrowly avoiding jail, young Glasgow father Robbie is trying to straighten out his life while serving community service and keeping clear of old trouble. Paul Brannigan is Robbie, whose outlook shifts after a visit to a whisky distillery introduces him to a talent he didn’t know he had. Under the watch of Harry (John Henshaw), Robbie and the other men in his payback group start to imagine a different future. In Ken Loach’s Scotland-set story, the world of rare casks and tasting notes opens into something riskier when that knowledge begins to look like a way out.
