The Sisters Brothers
ComedyDramaWestern122 min
In Oregon in 1851, notorious assassin brothers Charlie and Eli Sisters are sent by the Commodore to capture Hermann Kermit Warm, a chemist heading for California with a profitable secret for finding gold. Joaquin Phoenix’s Charlie is the harder, more reckless half of the pair, while John C. Reilly is Eli, older and increasingly uneasy with the life they’ve built. Their pursuit carries them through frontier towns and toward Gold Rush country, where the job keeps colliding with Eli’s doubts and the brothers’ fraying partnership. The film keeps its Western landscape dusty and dangerous, while making room for deadpan humor and the odd domestic detail amid the bloodshed.
