Purple Noon

CrimeDramaThriller118 min

Sent to coastal Italy to persuade a rich friend's son to return home, Alain Delon is Tom Ripley, a gifted mimic, forger, and freeloader who slips too easily into other people's lives. Maurice Ronet's Philippe Greenleaf is careless, wealthy, and impossible for Tom to ignore; as the two drift between Rome and the sea with Philippe's girlfriend Marge nearby, Tom's errand turns into a private scheme built on envy, performance, and deception. René Clément's adaptation keeps Ripley close enough to watch him invent himself moment by moment, using charm, nerve, and a talent for becoming whatever the situation requires.
