In 1990s Miami, Sun Gym manager Daniel Lugo is convinced he can muscle his way to the American dream, so he recruits fellow bodybuilders Paul and Adrian for an extortion plot aimed at a wealthy businessman. Mark Wahlberg is Lugo, with Paul (Dwayne Johnson) and Adrian (Anthony Mackie) forming the swaggering, increasingly reckless crew around him. As the scheme grows from grift to kidnapping, Victor Kershaw (Tony Shalhoub) fights to be believed. Directed by Michael Bay and drawn from the Sun Gym gang case, the film folds flashy South Florida excess, weight-room bravado, and tabloid-crime absurdity into a story about ambition curdling into criminal fantasy.
