The Gambler
CrimeDramaThriller111 min
Literature professor Jim Bennett keeps a second life off campus: high-stakes gambling, mounting debts, and a reckless habit of pushing past the point of return. Mark Wahlberg is Bennett, who lands in deeper trouble after borrowing from a gangster and offering his own life as collateral. As he tries to maneuver between creditors and an illicit gambling ring, he draws the attention of John Goodman’s Frank, a loan shark with a paternal streak. Between lecture halls, casinos, and back-room deals, Bennett juggles pressure from his family, a growing connection with a student, and the consequences of betting everything on one more move.
