Exit Through the Gift Shop
ComedyCrimeDocumentary87 min
Thierry Guetta, a French shopkeeper in Los Angeles with a camera always running, starts filming street artists wherever he can find them and becomes fixated on the one figure nobody seems able to pin down: Banksy. When Guetta finally gets close, Banksy turns the project back on its maker, using the footage to trace Guetta’s path through the graffiti scene and toward his own art-world persona, Mr. Brainwash. Banksy appears with his face hidden and voice altered, while Shepard Fairey and Invader show up in on-the-job footage that keeps one foot on city walls and the other in galleries, hype, and questions of authorship.
