The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

DramaRomanceWar124 min

Lily James is Juliet Ashton, a London writer in the late 1940s who begins corresponding with a Guernsey farmer after learning about an oddly named book club created during the island’s German occupation in World War II. As Juliet looks into the society for a new piece of writing, Dawsey Adams (Michiel Huisman) and the other members share how reading became a cover for gathering under wartime rule. The film moves between postwar London and the island community, where the club’s origin story is tied to missing friends, guarded memories, and the people who held each other together through the occupation.
