On her first mission, medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone is outside the shuttle when a cloud of debris turns a routine spacewalk into a fight to stay alive. Sandra Bullock is Stone, stranded in orbit with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski; George Clooney gives Kowalski the calm voice beside her in the void. With the shuttle destroyed and contact with Earth cut off, their only options lie among distant stations, failing oxygen, and the cold mechanics of getting from one piece of hardware to the next.
