My Uncle

Comedy118 min

Jacques Tati is Monsieur Hulot, a genial Paris eccentric whose visits to his sister’s ultra-modern suburban home turn ordinary routines into a parade of small disasters. Hulot prefers his cramped top-floor apartment and the older, messier parts of the city, while his relatives are devoted to gadgets, spotless surfaces, and a carefully managed new way of life. As his sister tries to steer him toward a job and a suitable match, Hulot keeps slipping away with his young nephew and upsetting the order of the Villa Arpel household. Tati builds the comedy out of architecture, movement, and the absurd logic of modern convenience.
