The 400 Blows
CrimeDrama99 min
Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Léaud) is a Paris schoolboy who slips between a cramped home, a strict classroom, and the streets of Montmartre, where skipping school with his friend René feels like the only freedom he has. Surrounded by adults who punish first and listen later, Antoine drifts from small lies and petty mischief into trouble with the police. Claire Maurier and Albert Rémy are the parents waiting at home, distracted and impatient in ways that leave him little room to breathe. François Truffaut’s semi-autobiographical first feature follows Antoine’s early collisions with authority in black-and-white Paris.
