Sadie Thompson
DramaRomance97 min
Gloria Swanson is Sadie Thompson, a young woman trying to start over on the South Pacific island of Pago Pago, where a search for honest work collides with the judgment waiting for her there. Timothy O'Hara, an American sailor, is unfazed by her past, but Lionel Barrymore's Mr. Davidson arrives on the same island with a very different mission: to force Sadie away from him and have her sent back to San Francisco. Built around the clash between Sadie's independence and Davidson's religious authority, the film turns a tropical outpost into a pressure cooker of desire, shame, and control.
