Street Angel

DramaRomance102 min

Maria is a young woman in Naples who steals medicine for her ailing mother and ends up on the run, surviving on the streets before joining a traveling carnival. Janet Gaynor is Maria, all quick instincts and defiance, and Angelo (Charles Farrell), a vagabond portrait painter, becomes her partner in a fragile romance. The story moves from city alleys to circus tents and jail cells, following a love affair shaped by poverty, pursuit, and the brief shelter the carnival offers.
