The Nun

Drama140 min

Forced into a convent in eighteenth-century France, Suzanne is made to take vows she does not want and then passed from one religious house to another as she tries to resist. Anna Karina is Suzanne, a young woman trapped inside a rigid institution where each Mother Superior brings a different kind of pressure, from maternal concern to cruelty to desire. As the convents change, so do the forms of authority closing in around her. Liselotte Pulver and Micheline Presle are among the women who define the shifting power inside those walls.
