The Producers
ComedyCrimeMusical135 min
On 1950s Broadway, scheming producer Max Bialystock and timid accountant Leo Bloom hatch a crooked plan: raise more money than a show needs, then stage such an obvious flop that no investor will expect a return. Nathan Lane is Max, all desperation and showman bluster, opposite Matthew Broderick’s Leo, whose audit sparks the idea. Their chosen disaster is Springtime for Hitler, a lavishly tasteless musical meant to close on opening night, sending the pair deeper into a scam built on wealthy elderly backers, backstage chaos, and one spectacularly bad idea.
