Nora is a single mother raising two teenage daughters while waiting tables at a truck-stop diner in a small New Mexico town. Brooke Adams’s Nora is holding together a fragile household, while her younger daughter passes afternoons at Spanish movie matinees, dreaming past the limits of home. Ione Skye is Trudi, the older sister whose decision to leave school and work beside Nora pulls mother and daughter into even closer conflict. When Trudi becomes pregnant and the girls’ absent father returns, the family’s already narrow routine is thrown off balance.
