Fresh out of prison, Jack Kelson is trying to find work and hold onto the idea of a new start in Seattle when the teenage son he barely knows tracks him down. Jeff Bridges is Jack, a guarded ex-con with plans to keep moving; Edward Furlong's Nick wants something simpler and harder to get: a father who will let him stay. As the two try to make a life together, old resentments, money problems, and Jack's instinct to stay distant keep getting in the way of the bond they're both testing.
