On the eve of the French Revolution, Henriette and Louise, raised as sisters, travel to Paris in hopes of curing Louise's blindness. When a predatory aristocrat intervenes, they are separated in a city sliding toward upheaval. Lillian Gish is Henriette, the protective sister pulled into the turmoil around her, while Dorothy Gish's Louise moves through Paris at its most dangerous and unstable. Their story shifts between aristocratic privilege and the streets below, with the sisters' separation unfolding against the collapse of the old order in late-18th-century France.
