Ida

Drama82 min

In 1960s Poland, novice nun Anna is about to take her vows when a visit to her only living relative opens up a buried family history from the German occupation. Agata Trzebuchowska is Anna, a sheltered orphan raised in a convent; Agata Kulesza’s Wanda, a former state prosecutor and sharp-tongued aunt, tells her that her real name is Ida and that her family was Jewish. Their search for answers takes them from the convent into the countryside, where faith, postwar politics, and wartime loss sit side by side.
