In an overcrowded, overheated 2022 New York, most people live on scarce rations and a mysterious mass-produced food called Soylent Green. Charlton Heston is Thorn, a homicide detective who lives by scavenging what comforts he can while working cases in a city strained by pollution, poverty, and constant unrest. When the murder of a wealthy executive lands on his desk, Thorn starts pulling at threads that reach well beyond a single crime. At his side is Sol (Edward G. Robinson), an elderly researcher whose memories of an earlier world sharpen the film’s picture of a society running out of space, food, and answers.
