New York, New York

DramaMusicalRomance155 min

On V-J Day in postwar New York, a young singer and an egotistical saxophonist meet and begin a romance that grows more strained as both try to build careers in music. Liza Minnelli is the singer, finding her place in the band world, while Robert De Niro's Jimmy Doyle charges ahead on jazz talent and ego. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film moves through 1940s New York City and the big-band scene, following two musicians whose partnership is shaped as much by ambition as attraction.
