In 1947, Jackie Robinson becomes the first Black player in Major League Baseball’s modern era when the Brooklyn Dodgers bring him up, putting him in the path of open hostility from crowds, reporters, opposing teams, and his own clubhouse. Chadwick Boseman is Robinson, carrying the pressure of every at-bat and every insult, while Harrison Ford’s Branch Rickey, the Dodgers executive who signs him, insists that talent alone won’t be enough. The film tracks Robinson’s first stretch in the majors as he and Rickey push against baseball’s color barrier under constant public scrutiny.
