Polina is a young dancer from a modest family whose years of strict ballet training put her on track for the Bolshoi, until an audition with a contemporary company in France sends her in a different direction. Anastasia Shevtsova is Polina, moving from the discipline of the academy to the uncertainty of a new style and a new country. Juliette Binoche’s Liria Elsaj, a choreographer Polina encounters in France, becomes part of that shift as the film follows her from classical rigor toward modern dance and the harder questions that come with changing course.
