Son of Saul
DramaThrillerWar107 min
At Auschwitz in 1944, Saul Ausländer is a Hungarian Jewish prisoner assigned to the Sonderkommando, forced to usher fellow captives to their deaths and burn their bodies. Géza Röhrig is Saul, moving through the camp with a fixed purpose after he finds the body of a boy he believes is his son. As other prisoners quietly prepare a rebellion, Saul becomes consumed with a different task: keeping the child from the crematory, finding a rabbi, and arranging a proper Jewish burial. The film stays close to Saul’s point of view, with the machinery of the camp pressing in at the edges of every moment.
