Fourteen-year-old Walter is dumped at a rural Texas farm for the summer, where his introverted reserve meets two reluctant great-uncles with a locked-up fortune and a long trail of rumors behind them. Haley Joel Osment is Walter, slowly drawn into the orbit of Hub and Garth, the gruff brothers at the center of the house, with Robert Duvall and Michael Caine giving them equal parts weariness and mischief. Over one early-1960s summer, the men's stories of a far-off past begin to fill Walter's imagination, turning a lonely exile into a bond between three family members who barely know one another.
