Meryl Streep is Gail Hartman, a former river guide trying to patch up a strained marriage with Tom (David Strathairn) on a white-water rafting trip in Montana for their son Roarke’s birthday. What starts as a family getaway shifts fast when two strangers join them on the river, including Kevin Bacon’s Wade, whose friendly front gives way to something far more dangerous. Cut off in rough country and pushed deeper into the rapids, Gail has to use every bit of her experience to protect her family as the trip turns into a fight for control of the boat — and the route home.
