After a car accident in 2006, Manchester detective Sam Tyler wakes up in 1973 and finds himself back on the same police force, in the same city, under a very different set of rules. As he works cases alongside hard-driving DCI Gene Hunt, every investigation doubles as a clue: is Sam insane, in a coma, or somehow truly living in the past? The shock of the era is constant, from rough policing and casual prejudice to streets and suspects he thought he knew. John Simm and Philip Glenister anchor the central clash as Sam tries to do his job, keep his grip on reality, and work out what happened to him.
