She is pulled into rough-edged investigations with DCI Gene Hunt, where each case forces her to work by old-school rules while she searches for a way back to her own time. As murders, robberies, and corrupt deals pile up, Alex tries to use her modern knowledge to stay ahead, but the past keeps pushing back. What starts as a baffling dislocation becomes a running mystery about why she is there and what this version of the police force wants from her.
