The Help

Drama146 min

In 1963 Jackson, Mississippi, recent college graduate Skeeter Phelan comes home to a society ordered by segregation and starts asking questions about the Black maids who raise white children and keep white households running. Emma Stone is Skeeter, an aspiring writer whose search for her missing childhood maid draws her toward Aibileen, a domestic worker and grieving mother embodied by Viola Davis. As Skeeter begins collecting testimony from Aibileen and the outspoken Minny, the project cuts across the town’s strict social lines, exposing the daily humiliations, dependencies, and risks built into life for “the help.”
