Gil Buckman is trying to be the perfect parent, but in the Buckman family, every relative brings a different problem to the table. Steve Martin is Gil, a loving husband and father whose daily worries keep colliding with sibling drama, anxious kids and the pressure to hold everyone together. Around him, Dianne Wiest and the rest of the ensemble fill out a family crowded with estranged relatives, black sheep, eccentrics and rebellious teenagers, where old grudges and new disasters tend to surface at the same time. Ron Howard's film follows the Buckmans through the messier side of raising children and staying connected.
