At a home for retired musicians, the annual concert for Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday keeps old routines and old reputations alive—until Jean, Reggie’s ex-wife and former performing partner, moves in and throws the balance off. Tom Courtenay is Reggie, still tangled up in the history between them, while Maggie Smith’s Jean arrives with all the hauteur of a celebrated diva and refuses to sing. As the concert draws closer, Wilf (Billy Connolly) and Cissy (Pauline Collins) are pulled into the friction, and the home’s genial rhythm gives way to rehearsals, bruised pride, and unfinished business from years onstage.
