In London, American dancer Jerry Travers falls for model Dale Tremont after a late-night tap rehearsal in the hotel room above hers sends her upstairs to complain. Fred Astaire is Jerry, trying to charm his way past a bad first impression, while Ginger Rogers's Dale is quickly won over and then thrown off by a mistaken-identity mix-up that has her confusing Jerry with his producer. Edward Everett Horton's Horace Hardwick and Eric Blore's valet Bates add to the farce as hotel-room misunderstandings, backstage business, and a rival fashion designer keep tangling the romance.
