Turning 42 has Hollywood songwriter George Webber looking at his life with mounting panic. Dudley Moore is George, a successful composer whose restlessness turns into obsession after he catches sight of Bo Derek’s Jenny, a newlywed he barely knows. As George leaves his comfortable Los Angeles routine behind and follows the fantasy to Mexico, his fixation collides with his relationship at home and sends him into a run of increasingly awkward detours, from the psychiatrist’s office to the dentist’s chair. Blake Edwards frames the whole spiral as a glossy late-’70s comedy about vanity, desire, and a man convinced he’s found a perfect 10.
