John Lithgow is Dick Solomon, the high commander of an alien expedition that comes to Earth in human form and poses as part of an ordinary family. Traveling with him are fellow extraterrestrials Harry, Sally, and Tommy — the oldest of the group, now stuck in a teenager’s body — as they observe the habits of a planet they consider largely insignificant. Kristen Johnston and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are part of the faux family unit, with the comedy built around the Solomons’ attempts to interpret everyday human behavior while keeping their mission, and their origin, under wraps.
