DramaRomanceThriller117 min
Jane Fonda is playwright Lillian Hellman, drawn out of her literary life and into a covert assignment when an old friend asks for help. Vanessa Redgrave's Julia, once part of Hellman's closest circle, is now involved in anti-Nazi resistance work in Europe, and Hellman agrees to smuggle money into Germany as the continent moves toward war. The story holds on the bond between the two women while following Hellman through border crossings, coded meetings, and the tightening danger of pre-World War II Europe.
