The Long Walk Home

Drama97 min

In 1955 Montgomery, Alabama, the bus boycott following Rosa Parks’ arrest reaches into one household and strains the bond between two women living on opposite sides of segregation. Sissy Spacek’s Miriam Thompson is a well-off white homemaker who suddenly finds herself driving her maid to work when Black riders stop taking the bus; Whoopi Goldberg is Odessa Cotter, whose daily commute becomes part of a larger protest led by Martin Luther King Jr. As the boycott gathers force, the film follows how a national civil rights battle collides with private routine, marriage, and the rules of Jim Crow.
