Mildred Pierce
CrimeDramaMysteryRomance111 min
After divorcing her unfaithful husband, Mildred Pierce builds a restaurant business from the ground up, determined to give her daughters the comfort she never had. Joan Crawford is Mildred, composed and relentless as success only deepens her attachment to Ann Blyth’s Veda, a bright, demanding daughter with expensive tastes and little gratitude. Jack Carson and Zachary Scott move through the mix of business, romance, and class ambition as the story’s domestic tensions tighten into a murder case. The result threads maternal sacrifice and social climbing through glossy Hollywood melodrama with noir shadows at the edges.
