The Guardians
DramaWar138 min
As World War I pulls the men away from the Paridier farm, Hortense and the women around her are left to keep the land working in rural France. Nathalie Baye is Hortense, the family matriarch, who brings in Francine (Iris Bry), a young orphan, to help her daughter Solange and the rest of the household through harvests, shortages, and the strain of separation. Daily labor binds the farm together, but old tensions and new arrivals — including American troops nearby — begin to unsettle the fragile order at home.
