Cynical journalist Lloyd Vogel reluctantly takes an assignment to profile Fred Rogers in 1990s America, expecting a soft celebrity piece and finding something far more personal. Matthew Rhys is Lloyd, a writer carrying family strain into every interview, while Tom Hanks’s Mister Rogers meets him with the same calm curiosity he brings to television. As the article begins to take shape, the film follows the uneasy connection between a guarded reporter and a public figure whose gentleness is harder to dismiss up close. Chris Cooper and Susan Kelechi Watson round out Lloyd’s family life beyond the interview.
