The Beaches of Agnès
Documentary112 min
Agnès Varda turns the camera on herself in this autobiographical documentary, revisiting beaches, homes, and film sets from her past as she assembles a self-portrait from memories, photographs, film clips, and staged re-creations. Varda is both guide and subject, moving through her childhood, her career, and the friendships that shaped her life in cinema. Jacques Demy’s longtime place in her life becomes one of the film’s central threads, folded into her reflections on work, love, and artistic community. Along the way, she loops back to images from her earlier films and to the people and places that continued to follow her.
