The Winter Guest

Drama108 min

Emma Thompson is Frances, a recent widow spending a cold day in a small Scottish village by the sea while deciding whether to leave for Australia with her teenage son, Alex. When her mother arrives, old tensions and habits resurface; Phyllida Law’s Elspeth comes to reconnect, but she also forces Frances to sit with the grief she’s trying to outrun. Around them, the film follows other pairs moving through the same winter day: two elderly women on their way to a funeral, two schoolboys skipping class for the beach, and Alex as he starts to orbit his crush on the neighboring Nita.
