Queen Christina

DramaRomance99 min

In 17th-century Sweden, Queen Christina is caught between the demands of the crown and a secret romance when, traveling in disguise, she falls for a Spanish envoy on his way to her court. Greta Garbo is the young monarch, admired by her people but hemmed in by politics, marriage expectations, and the need to secure peace. John Gilbert’s envoy enters the story first as a stranger at a crowded inn, then as a complication at the center of court life once Christina’s identity is revealed. The film moves from private intimacy to ceremony, diplomacy, and the public burden of the throne.
