Playwright J.M. Barrie is deep in a writing slump when a chance friendship with a widowed mother and her four sons begins to reshape both his life and his work. Johnny Depp is Barrie, moving between the pressures of the theater and the imaginative games the boys draw him into, while Kate Winslet's young mother becomes the center of the family that changes him. As Barrie struggles to write and get a new play onstage, the household's grief, playfulness, and shared fantasies start to feed the ideas that will become Peter Pan.
