In early-1900s Vienna, a celebrated stage magician rekindles a forbidden romance with the aristocratic woman he loved as a boy, even though she is now engaged to Crown Prince Leopold. Edward Norton is Eisenheim, whose increasingly uncanny performances blur the line between illusion and something harder to explain. As his pursuit of Sophie threatens the royal court, Paul Giamatti’s Chief Inspector Uhl is drawn into the case, trying to separate trickery from scandal while the monarchy begins to shake around them. Romance, class tension, and court intrigue drive the mystery beneath the velvet-and-gaslight surface.
