Bridge of Spies
DramaThrillerWar142 min
In 1960, Brooklyn lawyer James Donovan is pulled into a Cold War standoff when he’s asked to defend accused Soviet spy Rudolf Abel. Tom Hanks is Donovan, a civilian negotiator facing courtroom scrutiny, public suspicion, and pressure from the CIA. After U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers is shot down over the Soviet Union, Donovan is sent to Berlin to work toward a prisoner exchange, with Mark Rylance’s Abel at the center of it. Steven Spielberg places the legal battle and the diplomacy in the tense space between Brooklyn courtrooms, East Berlin checkpoints, and the quiet maneuvering of two rival governments.
