In a great forest shadowed by war, a poor woodcutter’s wife rescues a baby girl thrown from one of the trains that keep passing through the trees. Dominique Blanc voices the woman, whose act of mercy pulls her household into the child’s fate, while Grégory Gadebois is the woodcutter, hardened by cold, hunger, and poverty. As word of the baby spreads, the story follows the lives changed by her arrival, including the man who cast her from the train and those who try to keep her alive. The film wraps that wartime story in the shape of a dark fable.
