Frida
AnimationDocumentary87 min
Frida Kahlo’s life and art are narrated in her own words in this portrait of the Mexican painter, drawn from her diary, letters, essays, and print interviews. Frida follows more than 40 years of Kahlo’s life, using lyrical animation inspired by her paintings and illustrated journals to move between biography and interior self-portrait. Instead of building an outside account of the artist, the film shapes its story around Kahlo’s own voice, with Spanish-language narration and imagery that echoes the color, symbolism, and magical-realist sensibility of her work.
