The Replacements
Comedy118 min
When a players’ strike sidelines Washington’s pro football stars, veteran coach Jimmy McGinty turns to a roster of backups, washouts, and never-weres to keep the Sentinels in the playoff hunt. Gene Hackman’s McGinty builds his team from old scouting files and bad bets, with Keanu Reeves as the former quarterback asked to lead the whole shaky experiment. Around them, Orlando Jones, Jon Favreau, and Rhys Ifans fill out a locker room of mismatched replacements suddenly thrown onto a very public stage. Inspired by the 1987 NFL strike, the film follows that patched-together squad from tryouts to kickoff.
