In 1942 Casablanca, Canadian intelligence officer Max Vatan (Brad Pitt) is paired with Marianne Beauséjour, a French Resistance fighter brought to life by Marion Cotillard, for a mission that requires them to pose as husband and wife behind enemy lines. When they reunite in London, their relationship has to survive the strain of war, secrecy, and the demands of intelligence work. Robert Zemeckis places their romance inside a World War II spy story, moving from sunlit North Africa to bomb-shadowed Britain as duty and intimacy begin to pull against each other.
